KPSI Days

In December 1979, Ed Kibbey had the balls to hire a 24 year old kid with nothing but a 1st Class FCC licence and a demo reel of promos for a bar. This was my first full-time job in radio; a little Class IV AM station in the desert. Elliott Field hired me after a brief inverview that Saturday and I was moved in and working on January 3, 1980.

I met a lot of really good people during my, almost, 5 years there and during a period around 1989 wen I worked for the station 2 days a week as a contractor. Some of them decided to have a reunion of 1980's staff on June 2, 2001, and thought to invite me. Below are pix from that gathering. I'll post whatever I can dig up from the boxes of slides and photos I have from those days, with observations, over the next few months. Others may send in their submissions, too. Please stop back from time to time to see what's been added. Also, please pass this URL on to other KPSI staff and friends from the time period.

Happy (belated)50th, Stan! Just remember that Ed's always older; making breakfast for you is getting more difficult...

Some Of The KPSI Staff At The Gathering

Here are some more digital pix from the gathering. Please don't shoot the photographer! Many of these were taken in a dark bar with little or no flash. Some were taken under disco lights. I've digitally modified many of these to make them easier to see; the result is that many of them are "noisy" due to the low light levels.

Just click on a pic to see a larger version of it. Feel free to download them.

The Drive

We drove from San Diego via Temecula, Hwy 79, and Hwy 74 to Palm Desert. It was a beautiful day for a drive and I was reminded of what I LIKED about the desert.

We stayed at the Marriott Desert Springs , which we felt was a waste of money. $230 for one night, basic room, off season, and they had the gall to charge us $1.00 for each LOCAL phone call and $4.00 for a bottle of Evian water placed in the room.
