B-24Collings1346.JPG 68.5KB This shot was at Long Beach Airport. The Collings Foundation maintains older military aircraft and they fly this B-24 and her companion, B-17 "9-0-9", around the country selling rides to help pay for upkeep. See pix of my B-17 flight |

B-29CrawlwayLookingAft1332.JPG The B-29 was the first allied pressurized bomber. So that they didn't have to worry about losing cabin pressure when the bomb bay doors were open, they just skipped pressurizing the bomb bay. To get from the cockpit to the aft section (where the head was) they'd crawl thru this tunnel when in flight 137.2KB |

Looking Down The Side of B-47 Cockpit 105.0KB The B-47 cocpit is 3 in tandem with a walkway down the left side. The bombardier/nav is in the nose, mostly enclosed (you can see his radar screen in the middle). The pilot is in the middle and the co-pilot aft, both under the canopy. The co-pilot's seat rotates for operating remote tail guns |
F-111Cockpit1320.jpg 71.7KB I think this is one of the prettiest looking fighters. Nice curves and sleek. In my book she's up there with the B-1 and the SR-71 in the looks dept. |
